Greetings everyone! My name is Viboseny Vathana and I’m a freshman at EASB known as East Asia Institute of Management. I have finally received a scholarship majoring Business and Management studies and have been able to grab this opportunity as a scholar to come to Singapore for three years.
I graduated from Modern International School in August 2016. Looking back at the old days, I can see the journey I have gone through. After spending eight years at Modern International School, I have looked at the fact that I was one of the very young students that was a “Non-English Speaker”. I still remember the first day at school, sitting in the corner of the class and talking to nobody because I couldn’t communicate in English with others. I can also remember that I wasn’t even able to tell the teacher to lower down the temperature in class because I was freezing cold. I felt ashamed of myself that I couldn’t do what others could and I had to deal with this. I wondered why my friends could bring this language to life and have so much fun, unlike me. Then one day, after crying every night, I suddenly had this motivation and inspiration that I could do what the others do. From that moment, I started reading a lot of English story books and watched every documentary video I possibly could because I knew that I had to change myself.
I cannot thank my parents and all the teachers enough for helping me from the first day to who I am today. I have become one of the best English speakers at Modern International School with all the recognition from the foreign teachers coming from different parts of the world. As I am what I am today, I am fully honored and blessed with what I have to say to share my experience with my beloved juniors at Modern International School.
In life, no one will help you out until you help yourself. You need to work hard, put your blood, sweat and tears in it and if it’s not there yet, do not let yourself down. Just believe in yourself and it will be even greater for you to open up to the world around you and bring back in what is inspiring you. Until then, I am thankful and I deeply appreciate who Modern International School has helped me to be, who I am, and what I have become.
