The Path to Excellence
The Specialized English Program is specifically tailored by M.I.S to provide top level education which meets the needs of our students. The program syllabus includes English Language subjects Writing, Reading & Life Science, and Conversation & Listening as well as Chinese Language, Computer Studies, Sport, Swimming, Art, and Music. All subjects are taught in the English Language (with the exception of Chinese Language which is taught in English & Chinese), and our students study in areas of the school which have been designated to be strictly English speaking only. Therefore, our students are fully immersed in an English speaking environment. English, Chinese, and Computer Studies count towards each student’s overall grade. Sport, swimming, art, and music are extra-curricular subjects and are taught to enhance the skill set of our students to give them a well-rounded education.
Our number one priority is, and always will be, nurturing students and providing them with the very best platform for future success. We believe our Specialized English as a Second Language Program offers all the tools needed to succeed in today’s modern world.
Each year M.I.S. will choose at least two students from grades 5 to 8 and present them with international scholarships. These scholarships are provided free of charge and our students get the chance to visit and study in another country such as Australia or New Zealand.
This program offers students the opportunity to learn higher level of English and continue to consolidate and broaden their knowledge and understanding of themselves and the world. This is achieved by linking their English language learning to broader educational goals with direct connections to other school subjects. This provides M.I.S’s young learners with an authentic reason for communicating in English in their classroom.
M.I.S uses an innovative and engaging series of textbooks for this Program. This series ensures the students receive a solid foundation in the language with all macro-skills: Reading Comprehensive, Writing Skills, Conversational Skills and Computer Skills. The material requires students to perform various communicative language tasks to ensure that they can remember and, most importantly, use the skills they learn in a supportive environment when they are outside the classroom.
A maximum of 25 students is permitted in this program.
Pre Intermediate level
By the time your child has reached our Pre Intermediate level they are speaking, reading and writing English at a high level. Now we continue to see that their English language skills continue to improve. At M.I.S. we like to see both our students and our teachers enjoying their time spent in the classroom.
This program reflects young students’ own lives, personal interests and studies, making it the most accessible and relevant program available to young learners in Cambodia today. M.I.S’s young learners are encouraged to think critically. The program engages children in a variety of fun learning experiences using a wide range of English language skills through many creative, educational and fun activities. During each lesson the students practice English in many interesting ways though group work, question and answer sessions, research projects and presentations, puzzles, songs and other learning activities, including educational games to develop their skills.
Teachers on the Program
Students are taught only by native English-speaking teachers. All M.I.S’s teachers have at least a university degree and professional qualifications in TESOL and use modern methodology in their classes. They receive regular focused professional development to keep them up-to-date with specialised teaching methods for young learners.
