My name is Robert and I am 32 years old. I am from Toronto, Canada. I moved to Cambodia in January 2015 to pursue a lifelong dream of teaching English in South East Asia. I was always very shy and had to overcome glossophobia, or speech anxiety, in order to pursue a career in teaching. Cambodia was the first country I came to and it has become my home.
I have been a Conversation and Listening teacher at Modern International School for over two years. Modern International School gave me the opportunity to pursue a lifelong dream and I feel very privileged to work here with such an amazing team. I have found the students at Modern International School to be welcoming and hard working. They are very well behaved, smart, and creative. I am especially impressed by their penmanship, and artistic abilities.
In Canada I enrolled in Police Foundations in college and later received formal training in carpentry. I got experience tutoring and working with children for several years. Helped teaching math, English, and art at an after school program called Scouts About for underprivileged children. I tutored people in math and English, and even helped several people prepare for their TOEFL test.
I have a large family, with many brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces. I really enjoy drawing wildlife, hockey, golf, bicycling, swimming, and doing martial arts. I trained in Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu, and Goju-ryu Karate in Canada. I gained a lot of experience teaching children at the dojo. I have experience learning a foreign language. In Canada I studied Mandarin Chinese for three years.
I believe knowledge can transform lives and give our students the best possibility at a successful future. The ability to communicate efficiently in English will allow them to compete on a global scale.
